Waterproofing Basement Walls
From PrattWiki
The best time to make sure that your basement is waterproofed during the construction phase is when a waterproof membrane is applied outside the foundation. A poor foundation results to hydrostatic pressure that changes to water table in your house and causes leaks and seepage through the basement walls. You can prevent this on the basement wall by waterproofing basement walls with a water-resistant material. The existence of small cracks, holes or porous surfaces on the walls can be tested with pouring water to run through them, but they are usually easy to fix. On the other hand, larger holes can be fixed with the use of a mortar. A dovetail is fixed by a mortar on the wall to properly harden it. The composition for this is one part cement to two parts sand with enough water to allow the mortar create medium thickness. If you use a normal trowel mortar ensure that there are no air pockets or bags. Also use mortar with a stiff wire brush to remove loose particles, because if the wall is leaking, you may need to remove leakage with a sewer pipe in the subset of the pump above water. This situation can be temporary or permanent, depending on the nature of the flow of water.
The repair of leaking seams, holes in the floor and walls are the same way. Carve help ensure compliance with a dovetail for leaning against the wall and strength and drainage. If the wall is fully repaired, the mixture can be used to waterproof. Before applying the mixture to waterproof the wall it should be sanded to remove paint before wetting the wall because the mixture does not stick to a dry wall, and is not integrated into a damp wall. Make sure the manufacturer's instructions are read carefully as epoxy resins and latex waterproofing mixtures usually require a little water or, alternatively, you can create your own mixture of cement and water, which should be used with a moratorium for consistency to the mixed-use cream.
Start the application of the mixture with a stiff brush moving against the back of the wall in the right to left direction. Every thief and corners must be filled in feather edges to cover the entire area and let it dry overnight or until the mixture is flaky. After drying, wet the wall thoroughly again and apply a second layer of sealing compound in the same manner as the first. You may have to start over with one layer instead of two. Use this information and waterproofing basement walls will not be as difficult as it seems. It will eventually dry the basement and that's for sure.
