- When I was using XWin32 with PuTTY today, I was able to log into an OIT machine, but when I tried to run xterm or MatLab, nothing would happen. There would be no error, but the program would never start. I noticed that when moused over, XWin32 said it was set to Display 1, which I think must be wrong. When I checked X-Config, under the Network tab, the display number is already set to 0. I can't figure out how to make XWin change what it says it is set to on the icon. In the mean time, I've been using another X Server, Xming, that I got from SourceForge. It has been working better, since I can now see xterm and MatLab running, but there's another problem. The bottom part of the MatLab window is just blank white, and the dropdown menus aren't working properly either. Also, when I tried running emacs, Xming didn't support the font, so it's definitely only a temporary fix. I'd appreciate any advice on how to get XWin32 back up and running properly, and how to not get this problem again in the future. Thanks!! UPDATE: XWin32 is at Display 0 again and everything is working today- I guess restarting my computer fixed it- but I would still like to know what might have caused this so I know not to do it again. - On occasion, the display counts get messed up - this may because of a dropped license, an error in the configuration file for your Linux account, or one of Jupiter's moons being too close to Neptune. Though the latter probably is not really the issue. Restarting, alas, is often a good option if X-Win is behaving very poorly. DukeEgr93 12:49, 11 January 2009 (EST)
- Earlier today while using PuTTy, I could run xterm or any other graphic program. When I highlighted the icon in the lower right corner, XWin32 said Display 1. I know it's supposed to say Display 0. I have tried re-installing the program and searched online for the solution, but I cannot seem to find one. Any help will do. (err14 Err14 23:18, 26 August 2009 (EDT))
- If it comes up as display 1, you will need to restart, make sure you are using the new version of X-Win 32 and only open it once. DukeEgr93 14:04, 27 August 2009 (EDT)
- I have a similar problem as above, except this was the first time that I tried to install X-win to my computer and the Display still reads 1. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the application, I have restarted the computer, I have closed and reset the application but I can't seem to get the Display to read 0. Is there something I can do to fix this? (imb7 Imb7 13:21, 28 August 2009 (EDT))
- When attempting to access MatLab today, I received the following string of errors:
Xlib: connection to "localhost:10.0" refused by server
Xlib: The client is on a restricted network
Xlib: connection to "localhost:10.0" refused by server
Xlib: The client is on a restricted network
Warning: Unable to open display 'localhost:10.0'. You will not be able to display graphics on the screen.
- X Win is correctly displaying Display 0 and my computer is fully connected to the Duke network. I have tried accessing MatLab on multiple machines, all giving the same error.--Sky9 09:51, 22 February 2010 (EST)
- The restricted network part makes me think you have connected to something other than Duke. Beyond that, might want to contact OIT - I know of at least one other person who has had that problem and I'll post the solution if I hear there is one. DukeEgr93 11:59, 22 February 2010 (EST)
